Why I took my Pharmacy Tech Degree Online

I didn’t want to travel

I come from a state where there are a lot of great colleges or pharmacy technician schools, so my parents just expected me to pick one out and go there. Sadly, the pharmacy technician schools that I wanted to go to didn’t have a pharmacy tech degree or a pharmacology course, and the nearest college had these programs were two states over. If I had relatives in that particular state, I would’ve gone there but sadly I don’t want to spend money on expenses like board and lodging, travel fees, and other miscellaneous money-wasting fees. I prefer to stay at home, enjoy my mom’s cooking every night, and not have to worry about getting lost in the city. This is one of the many reasons why I took up a pharmacy tech degree online.

I wanted to try something new

Even when I was still in high school, I was already thrilled at the option of getting an online education. It was like getting home-schooled, minus the parents being the teachers and all. I had a friend from an online game who took an online accountancy course and he bragged about how he was always online and always at home every day. I envied him and I decided upon graduation from high school that I would try to follow in his footsteps. It was also a new experience for me because we get to spend more than 12 years inside the four walls of a classroom and I wanted to have a different experience for college. Apparently, trying something new was not enough to convince my parents so I had them read a lot of articles about the benefits of getting an online education. My father seemed interested enough and gave me the GO-signal. My mom was hesitant but it changed when she saw my grades for the first semester.

I stayed at home

I took up an online pharmacy tech degree because I wanted to stay at home. Practically speaking, I have saved enough gas money and board and lodging money for 2 years that can pay for another college education in another state. A classmate of mine, who’s a single parent, enjoyed the perks of staying at home while studying because he’s able to tend to his children’s needs in the morning, do the chores in the afternoon, and study at night. A lot of practical benefits can be found just by staying at home when you’re studying online. I also had another classmate who worked as a barista in the morning and was found studying at night. This was a perk that convinced my dad because he can ask me to do chores as long as it doesn’t conflict with my studies.

The lectures and lecturers were awesome

It’s not every day that you get to experience what it’s like to be taught by a renowned pharmacist or a doctor. In my online school, we had a lecturer who was the department head of pharmacology in a very good medical university (clue: this was name-dropped a lot in the TV show, House MD). They didn’t need to travel a great distance just to attend our classes. instead, they were equipped with a webcam, a good microphone, and a very powerful internet connection to broadcast the day’s lessons. They also gave us a chance to get in touch with them through email or Skype for a one-on-one mentoring. Can you imagine being mentored by esteemed individuals? My ethics classes were handled by two retired judges and one philosophy professor in an Ivy League school.
