Pharmacology – The Way to Healthcare Careers and Professions

I am not a graduate of any pharmacology courses, but rather, I graduated from a pharmacy technician courses coming from a specialized and unified training school for aspiring techs. The pharmacy technician school that I enrolled in offered 4 year Bachelor’s Degree programs in pharmaceutical technology. But this was not my first choice when I wanted to enter the healthcare industry. I wanted to become a nurse, but I found that it was too stressful for me and I had a difficult time managing the subjects. There was just too much stuff for me to memorize. The subjects that I enrolled in during my nursing years were not in vain because they were credited in the pharmacy technician course that I enrolled in. I finished the entire thing in 3 years, plus 3 months as a pharmacy technician intern. Don’t expect a lot of students either. Back in my day, there were only 20 of us taking up pharmacy technician training classes in that college.

But before anything else, I would like to say that the job of a pharmacy technician pays a lot of money. Let’s just say that I earned more than any other entry-level healthcare professional on my first year.

After I got my license, I was able to get a job as a pharmacy technician in a local clinic for elderly patients. We catered to around 150 patients and we have our stay-out patients coming in from different locations who went in everyday to get their prescriptions filled. Because I was the only pharmacy technician there with 2 other pharmacists, I was the one who prepared the medications for dispensing according to their prescriptions. Needless to say, counting pills and measuring medications become second nature when you spend three months doing it for 7 days a week at 12 hours a day. I spent the first two years of my career as a pharmacy technician in this clinic. I got hired as a pharmacy technician supervisor by another hospital when I got my Master’s degree in the same state where I went to pharmacy technician schools Eureka California.

In the hospital, I wished that I was back in my old clinic because I was used to dealing with only a hundred patients. In the hospital, my daily minimum of patients rose to 300+ and these were just the stay-in patients. Imagine me being at the hospital at 5AM because medicines needed to be dispensed between the hours of 7AM and 8AM, and this was part of my shift already. 8 hour shifts are rare, so I spend up to 12 hours a day in the hospital. I also have to manage the new pharmacy technicians because I need to make sure they are doing the right things. apart from the large number of patients, I also have to deal with the large number of medications that needed to be counted for inventory on a weekly basis.

Being a pharmacy technician allows you to get into the healthcare industry easily, and this was during the time when pharmacy technicians were not so in demand. Now, the BLS has predicted that the demand for our profession has skyrocketed by as much as 80% and pharmacy technician schools Eureka CA are now kicking it into high gear to keep up with the demand.

Stop worrying about the next position, or you’ll manage to get, and have an occupation that is stable and safe that you could rely on for many years to come in California.
